General Assembly

Fiona Jack

Tuesday 12 August - 06 September

General Assembly poses the question why didn't New Zealand ratify the UN Declaration of Indigenous Rights in 2007? The rest of the world signed except Australia, Canada, and the US. Since then Australia are now looking like they will sign, and Canada has since signed.

The exhibition is a series preambular paragraphs which express the aspirations of the declaration. Random members of the public from around the world have written out these paragraphs, and Fiona has reproduced them as paintings. As part of the exhibition, members of the public will be able to write out their favourite parts or comment on the declaration.

Read an interview with Fiona about the exhibition.
