Gordon Crook

Wednesday 28 May - 21 June

The tapestries designed by Crook and woven by long-time collaborator Lesley Nicholls, are large scale colour-rich works that explore the artist’s interest in the metaphysical.

Combining the influences of Russians Wassily Kandinsky and Kasimir Malevich, the paintings and tapestries are architecturally structured and delicately coloured. The imagery also reflects Crook’s interest in Egyptian cosmology particularly ideas about the planets and their influences.

“Our culture and society recognise things we see with our eyes – the surfaces of things. I am interested in making images that express the hidden aspects of our lives – our feelings, our spirit” Crook said.
