No Where Isles

Andrea du-Chatenier

Thursday 26 April - 19 May

This body of work uses rug making to construct islands. These include small islands that can be physically inhabited by a single person and a series of illustrations of brain cross-sections - small islands that we figuratively occupy. Both are fantastical places that offer the pros and cons of island states - isolation and sanctuary.

Made from hand-dyed wool, the islands are colorful and tactile. Wool is a wonderful material that evokes childhood, small- town homeliness, love and protection. These too, can be considered small islands from which we have become separated.
