bobble

Victor Berezovsky

Wednesday 28 March - 21 April

Sixty-five drawings on linen are installed on the largest wall of the gallery. These are framed and extended by a series of larger wall drawings. The gallery space is transformed into a kind of theatre where images bounce off each other and form playful relationships. References to hard-edged structuralism are combined with elements of folk art but the work is also closely linked to his Russian heritage. Amongst other things, he references Russian dolls and icons, kites, balloons and folk pattern making.

Though the artist has confined himself to using only basic shapes, it is the reductive language that gives the work its openness and lightness of interpretation. Conceptually underlining these playful shapes however, are also deeper ideas of separation, security, expansion and containment.
