The exhibition features a series of ‘lamps’ including a mirror bulb with concentric pencil circles, a fluorescent bulb with plastic strips, an aluminium panel with a bicycle light – all self-lighting objects which not only activate the space they occupy but narcissistically highlight themselves, reflecting light off their own surfaces and expanding their brief as merely lights.

Irving works only with industrial materials. He enjoys the technical problems posed by ‘mixing up’ ideas about art and design with particular materials. “Each work is its own particular challenge posing its own technical problems” he says “but the objects play with design concepts rather than taking their brief seriously.”
