Bringing all the things that run

Maryrose Crook

Wednesday 26 October - 11 November

Fantastical sequinned moths, luminous landscapes and exotic still lifes feature in a new exhibition by Maryrose Crook. Better known as the lead-singer and song writer for the alt country band, The Renderers, Maryrose Crook is also a painter of considerable talent who brings a fresh vision.
With lavish detail, attention to surfaces and a feeling for life’s transitory nature, her large glossy paintings evoke 17th century Dutch still life painting but with a twist. They invite the viewer into landscapes of emotion and cabinets of curiosity which reference historical objects but also contemporary fashion. “Maryrose’s moths seem to be a metaphor for fashion and fame. With their sensuous paintwork and meticulous technique, they are dark and poetic much like the songs from the Renderers' new album “Ghosts of our Vegas Lives.” said gallery co-director Mary-Jane Duffy.
