Serving Suggestion

Victor Berezovsky
Megan Campbell

Dallas White
Bronwynne Cornish
Brian Staite

Wednesday 01 December - 22 December

Banal packaging images of sliced egg crackers or plates of jelly may not be the usual starting point for an exhibition but this group show featured a number of works intended to make some “serving suggestions” for the holiday season.
Wairarapa artist Megan Campbell‘s delicate paintings evoked earlier days of Christmas plenty with visitors at tables laden with food and flowers. The territorial magpie is closeby and bonneted figures moon about in gardens.
Eltham artist Dallas White revives a favourite New Zealand icon with her Cigarette dogs. Using recycled lolly boxes and cigarette packs, her animals are lovingly woven and the Holiday brand specifically chosen.
Brian Staite spends his leisure time in Antarctica. Entitled Concepts that no longer hold water, his ice bucket and jug were based on items from Scott’s Hut.
Victor Berezovsky’s playful images combined human limbs with kitchen implements and remind us of the hours spent in the kitchen over Christmas.
Anna-Marie O’Brien paints solitary everyday objects as gifts that seem if not human, at least to exude animal character.
Reminiscent of the relatives that make their annual visit, Bronwynne Cornish’s owlette’s flew in for a visit from Auckland.
