"The works exist within the dualism of colour and shape. Another important feature is the opposition and tension derived from points/surfaces meeting and separating. Matter meets non-matter. Gaps /holes are surrounded by compressed matter.

When making these works I was fascinated by the fact that there is just that little bit more matter in this universe than anti-matter. The big question: "why is there not just nothing?" has always been an underlying starting point for my visual investigation.

I want to position these works in the early days of creation- minimal structures that grow through repeating the same building block. The end point to this growth is the artist’s aesthetic decision. That’s my only chance to stop the wilderness.

I also wanted the resulting shapes to have a musical quality. The minimal sound of humming seemed appropriate for these early stages of being. Each work hums in a different tone, slowly expanding. Until they decide to gently pull back and hover in silence waiting for the next humming session.
